Conspiracy 86 by RW+X in SQ7 --- Chapter 1 Our story begins in a small room onboard the Starcon Vessel: The Deepship 86. A few things could be said about this room. #1: It was messy; #2: It was a converted cargo hold; and #3: The biggest Space Quest fan in THE GALAXY was here. In case you haven't guessed it yet, the room is home to Roger Wilco. About six feet, blonde, blue eyes, Starcon Janitor uniform, mop in hand, that is your favorite Space Janitor Hero . "You know Gary, I like this guy whose doing your job better then you." "YOU KNOW ROGER, I LIKED IT BETTER WHEN YOU AND I TALKED IN LITTLE SPEECH BALLOONS. AND BY THE WAY YOU HAVE MESSAGE ON YOUR COMPOST" "I do? Funny how I never notice these things." "YES, I ALWAYS WONDER HOW YOU WOULD DO ON YOUR ON OWN WITHOUT ME TO HELP YOU NOTICE THINGS LIKE THAT." Roger got up and tapped a button on the compost. "WEREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO SAY:'WOW. A MESSAGE FOR ME. I MUST BE GETTING POPULAR.'" ;D "Shut up you big windbag." Roger shot back. "WAS THAT SUPPOSED TO HURT?" "Come down here and fight you coward!!!!!!! "Can't you two get along?" Xandra asked Roger. "If we could I don't think I'd be doing this." Roger's compost flashed with image of Commander Kielbasa's face. "Wilco, report to the bridge immediately. I have a very important job for you so hurry. Kielbasa out." "WELL ROGER I THINK YOU HAD BETTER HURRY. THE COMMANDER SAID HE HAD AN IMPORTANT JOB FOR YOU. MAYBE HE'S GIVING YOU A JOB THAT COULD HAVE YOU PROMOTED TO JANITOR 1ST CLASS. ;D" "Shut up you sarcastic excuse for a narrator. You won't even come down from the status bar." Roger said. Roger pressed a few buttons on his compost and he shot up the tube. "I'd better get going Gary. I have some stuff to do." Xandra said. She walked over to the compost, punched a few buttons, and got sucked up the tube. Chapter 2 Roger Wilco normally spent most of his day mopping, scrubbing, washing shuttles, and cleaning off the bridge windshield of the Deepship 86. However, today he was not busy as a result of actually working on instead of slacking off in a closet. "NOW ROGER, WILL YOU MIND IF YOU TELL ME HOW YOU MANAGED TO GET THROUGH WITH CLEANING? " "Well, I just cleaned the ship like I should have. But I don't suppose you would like to do it for me next shift? " "HEY TREAT YOUR OLD NARRATOR NICELY YOUNG MAN! " "Gary, you haven't seen Xandra around have you?" "LAST TIME I SAW HER SHE WAS IN YOUR QUARTERS BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE SHE IS NOW. I THOUGHT SHE WAS FOLLOWING YOU." "Okay thanks Gary, see ya'." "HEY, YOU CAN'T JUST DITCH ME LIKE THIS, I ALWAYS FOLLOW YOU!!!!" Roger popped down the transport tube into his quarters. "Gary, I thought you told me she was in here." "HEY BUD, I JUST SAID I SAW HER IN HERE LAST TIME I SAW HER." "So you lied to me?!!!! " "HEY DON'T KILL THE MESSANGER, I JUST READ THIS STUPID SCRIPT.! " "Oh shut up ,Gary!" Roger ran to the ComPost and shut up the tube faster than we've ever seen our favorite janitor do before. "GEEZE WHERE ARE YOU GOING AT THAT SPEED? LET YOUR FAVORITE NARRATOR CATCH UP OKAY!?" Chapter 3 You will excuse my not posting for a while as I have been busy but here is the next chapter. "Jeez, where could Xandra be, the Deepship isn't THAT big." "ACTUALLY COMPARED WITH MOST SHIPS, THIS THING IS NORMAL SIZED FOR A STARCON SHIP AND....." "Can it Gary, I'm in middle of looking for the most dedicated fan I've ever met! Not to mention one of the ONLY fans I've ever met!" Roger continued his search for Xandra however he did not find her. Several minutes have passed.... "45 TO BE EXACT RW+X IN SQ7 (BOY THATS A MOUTHFUL)" Ahemmmm......... 45 minute have passed. Roger came flying down the transport tube in the usual fashion. Only this time he landed in a heap on the floor. WHUMP! "Oooooof!" "Hey Roger, what took you so long? Where were you?" Xandra said to him as he dusted himself off. "Looking for you." "Oh, you know me, I like to tour this good ol' ship." "YEAH ROGER, I'D HAVE THOUGHT YOU WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT." "Come down here and fight like the chicken you are!" "CAN'T, NOT IN MY CONTRACT! " "I'm surprised you guys managed to make so many games together. You fight all the time." Xandra said, puting down her copy of Space Quester Weekly. "Trust me Xandra, it was tough!", said Roger glaring at Gary. "HEY, IT WAS ONLY TWO GAMES!" "Xandra, where are you going?" asked Roger. "I'm going to talk to the Commander about something. Don't worry about me." Xandra replied heading over to the ComPost. "What could she be up to?" asked Roger. What is Xandra up to? Why haven't we been seeing as much of her as we normally do? Is the Deepship made of particle board? Find in the next installment of Conspiracy '86! Chapter 4 Roger's ComPost blinked, showing that he had a message. "Hmmmmmm, I wonder who sent me this message." "MOST LIKELY THE COMMANDER." As Roger punched a command into the ComPost, Commander Kielbasa's face appeared on the screen. "TOLD YOU SO!" "Shut up Gary!" "Wilco, I need you to repair one of shuttles. It was hit by a rogue asteroid while entering the docking bay. Kielbasa out." Roger pressed the button for the docking bay on his ComPost and was blown up the tube by a sudden gust of air. Only seconds later, Roger was faced by the two guards in front of the docking bay doors. "Uh, hi guys, remember me?" Roger said rather sheepishly. Magnum glared down at Roger. Maybe I should have brought a replicator doughnut drenched in Morphine with me, thought Roger. "Could you guys open the doors for me?" Chesbro and Magnum turned and each pressed the buttons on the wall behind them. Several layers of doors opened up, one by one. "Thanks guys. No hard feeling right? " Roger said as he passed through the doors. As soon as he was through the thick bay doors, he started searching for the damaged shuttle. He easily found it as it was parked between to shuttles he had waxed and polished a day or two ago. "Ouch! I wonder who was piloting that shuttle!" Chapter 5 The shuttle looked like it had come out of an asteroid field. The metal plates were smashed in, the cockpit glass had several small cracks in it, half of a wing was missing and the engines looked like someone had tried to destroy them with laser. "KINDA REMINDS YOU OF THE SHIPS YOU FLEW WHILE BACK AT THE ACADEMY!" "Even I didn't fly that badly! At least the ships I flew back were in one piece!" Roger said as the right wing fell off the ship. The hatch on the shuttle opened and several armed StarCon guards walked out. Behind them came a Sarien in a bright red uniform. "Oh great, just what I need! A Sarien on board the Deepship?! Has Kielbasa lost his mind?!!?" "Are you Roger Wilco?" asked one of the guards. "Uh, yeah." "BOY, WHERE HAVE I HEARD THAT BEFORE?! " "Repair this shuttle and be sure to give her a good refueling." "Uh sir, I'm not allowed to refuel ships but I'll be sure to get one of the techs to do it. Uh, why is there a Sarien with you, uh, sir?" "We're taking this defector to see Kielbasa. He says he's willing to reveal key Sarien military secrets. Now get to work!" "A Sarien defector?!? If this isn't some Sarien trick I'll throw my Golden Mop out the airlock!" Roger said as the guards left. Chapter 6 For the last few days, Roger had been scanning the news highlights from Xenon. There had been no news about any Sarien defectors. "I know that the newsnets carry news about the usual Federation ship blowing a Sarien scout ship to pieces, but I find it interesting that there's nothing in the Galatic Inquirer about it." Roger said. "WELL, WE KNOW THAT IF ROGER FINDS SOMETHING INTERESTING, IT'S GENERALLY NOT IMPORTANT !" "Go jump in an airlock Garry!" The next day (if it could even be called day as nobody knew exactly what was day and what was night aboard a large ship like the Deepship 86), Roger was order to clean out the Brig. The Sarien prisnor sat in the cell where Roger had once been. The guards wore heavy battle armor and large helmets that allowed no one to see their faces. Roger immediately noticed a large scar on the Sarien's right hand. The next week (if could even be called a week), Roger was sent to clean the Brig again. This time, he noticed the Sarien didn't have the scar on his hand... Chapter 7 Commander Kielbasa always checked the day's security reports with Dorf. "What do we have today Dorf?" "Well, Sir," Dorf said in his stuffy, whiny tone. "Ensign Pulver was put on report today for trying to take off in a shuttle while under the influence of several Keronian ales, Mr. Wilco asked to see you about something, a couple of crew memebers were trying to hack into StarCon's main-frame..." "What was that last one, Dorf?" "Mr. Wilco said he wanted to see you about something. I thought he said it was about Sariens or something." "Thank you, Dorf, I'll review the rest later. Tell Ensign Pulver to stop drinking so much and tell Wilco I'll see him in my quarters." "Right away Commander, Sir." Meanwhile...back in Roger's quarters... "Come on, Dorf, tell Kielbasa, I TOLD you it was important!" "ROGER, YOU HAVE A MESSAGE." "I DO?!? I DO! Thank goodness!" Roger opened the message. "Would Mr. Wilco please report to the Captain's Cabin on the double." It was Dorf. "YES!!!!!! I KNEW he would tell the Captain!" Roger hurridly pressed buttons on the ComPost. Seconds later, He flew up the transportotube. A minute later, he landed in Kielbasa's quarters. Chapter 8 "Now Wilco, what is it that you wanted to tell me?" "Well, Commander, I've noticed some things about that Sarien "defector" and the "guards". Number one, sir, Sariens almost never surrender or defect. Most often, they self destruct their ships if they know they're going to be captured. And two, those guards, well, I can't quite put my finger on it, but I know there's something weird about them." "Interesting points, Wilco. However, the guards say that Admiral Toolman wants this Sarien taken to him. I'm afraid I'll have to do as he commands." "Thanks anyway, Commander." Roger said, realizing that the Commander understood what he had said, but knew he couldn't do anything without risking the wrath of StarCon. What will happen in Chapter 9? Stay tuned to catch the next episode of Conspiracy '86 Chapter 9 Roger had been ordered to clean the Brig again. He noticed that the Sarien "defector" bore no sign of ever having a scar on his right hand. "Maybe I was seeing things." Wilco thought to himself. "I was using a really strong cleaner." "ROGER, HOW MANY TIMES HAS THE COMMANDER TOLD YOU TO STOP SNIFFING CLEANING FLUID?! " "Shut it, Gary!" Suddenly, Roger noticed that Dorf was standing guard outside of the cell that held the Sarien. "Hey, Dorf, where are the usual guards?" "Oh, it's just you, Wilco. I thought those troopers had come to relieve me. They said something about them deserving a break for once and told me to take their place while they were gone." Dorf whined to him. "Did they say where they were going?" "They said they were going to the Holodeck. Hey! Why would you care where they are?" "Oh, no reason. I was just wondering why they weren't here." Roger said while trying to a straight face. "Knowing Dorf, it should be easy to sneak this lie past him." Roger thought to himself. "HOWEVER, CONSIDERING YOUR RECORD OF LYING, IT WOULDN'T BE SURPRISING TO SEE YOU PROVEN WRONG TODAY! " Meanwhile...on the Holodeck... The two StarCon guards were running a target practice program. For some reason, all of the holographic targets that were running around resembled Roger. "Where did you get this disk?" asked one of the troopers. "Came standard issue with armor." "How did you get the targets to look like Wilco?" "That was easy. Using my hacking skills, I was able to change the way the program runs with this Holo unit." "Have you heard any information from..." He was cut off by the other guard. "I thought we agreed not to talk about that." "Oh, yeah. Do you think Wilco knows?" "Well, he did seem to notice that the scar was missing when I was the 'defector'." "WHAT?!?!?" "Don't worry. From what I've read about him, he'll probably just think he was seeing things. Have you found anyone yet?" "That little weirdo Dorf said he'd work with us. I guess Wilco made a fool of him a while ago and he wants to make him pay for it." "Well, he's not the best we could have hoped for, but he'll do. We're going to take care of Wilco next week. I really hate getting used to the time scale on these StarCon vessels." "All right. Next week. We'd better get back before Dorf has a nervous breakdown and blows the few brain cells he has." Chapter 10 Well, we've learned quite a bit about our Sarien "defector". However, Roger knows nothing of this or the possible conspiracy between the guards and Dorf. On the Holodeck, the two guards from the Brig were running the usual StarCon trooper target practice program (and once again, the targets resembled Roger). "You know how we had decided to take care of Wilco next week?" "Yeah. What about it?" "Well, I received a message from... well you know who. They said that we have to finish the job know or there is a slight chance that we won't be picked up by the mothership." "That's just great. I hope you have everything planned becuase we're going to have to finish this in one standard day. You inform Dorf, I'll let our imprisoned friend know." "Should I bother to inform Dorf who we are?" "No. He doesn't have to know that we're Sariens. Unless of course High Command informed you to tell him." "No, I received no such orders. If we pull this off, we'll be able to leave the bounty hunter business for good. I'll relay our plan to High Command tonight." Chapter 11 That night... "High Command, this is Wilco Hunter 1, repeat this is Wilco Hunter 1 do you copy?" "Wilco Hunter 1 this is High Command. We have received your message and will proceed with the plan. The mothership is in transit to the coordinated you gave us. Capture Wilco and the reward is yours. And one other thing: Don't mess this up!" Later the next day: Roger had been sent to the Brig to fix the Replicator which the guards had reported was broken. When he fell out of the tube, he noticed something immediately: the two guards were watching him through their helmets. "Uh, hey guys. How's it going?" There was no reply. The guard closest to him began walking towards him while the other guard opened the cell with the defector. "Hey, shouldn't you keep him in there?" The only response he got was more silence as the guards and Sarien kept walking towards him. "What's going on here? I think I'm entitled to an answer to that question!" Roger got an answer, although it wasn't the kind he wanted. The lead guard had smacked him across the face with the butt of his rifle. Roger fell back against the wall. "There's no need to get violent! If you need to take out your anger, why don't you use a punching bag?" Roger noticed something odd about the guard who had hit him. Through the helmet's visor, he could see the guard's eyes. They were orange. In a desperate effort to protect himself, Roger started fighting the guard. In the confusion, he knocked the guards helmet off, and found himself staring a Sarien in the face! "Oh my God! You're a Sarien!" Roger never had time to say more as the guard punched him in the stomach. As he struggled to get up, the other guard shot him. "Did you kill him?" "No, he's only stunned. That should keep out of commission for the rest of the day. We have to move him, though. There's a broomcloset nearby. We'll stash him there. After we've hidden him, we need to act like we haven't seen him all day. By tonight, the mothership will have got here and we'll be on our way home." Will Roger escape from these Sariens? Will he end up getting his butt kicked by them? Will he end up going to the Sarien homeplanet? Will Dorf get his revenge on him for making a fool of him in Space Quest 6? All of this will be revealed next time! Merry Christmas! Chapter 11 Roger awoke in the dark of a broomcloset. At least he thought it was a broomcloset, as he couldn't see anything. Groggily, he got to his feet and tried to recall why he was in a closet. He slowly began to recall the scuffle with the Sariens and something about being shot. "Ha! They say those stun lasers can keep guys down for up to 12 hours, but I guess it didn't work on me! I wonder why..." "MAYBE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE LACK OF MATERIAL IN YOUR CRANIUM." "Oh, shut up!" Examining, the closet more closely, Roger found that it was a broomcloset and that the Sariens had managed to jam to door from the outside. "Oh great! Now how am I going to get out of here? I'll probably starve to death!" "AND NOBODY WOULD ACTUALLY NOTICE UNTIL THE ODOR OF YOUR DECAYING REMAINS WOULD BEGIN TO SEEP OUT OF THAT VENT ." "Vent?! What vent? There's a vent here?!!!? Thank God! I'm saved! " "OTHERS AMONG US WON'T THANK GOD." "Can it!" Slowly he worked his way through the narrow opening into the vent. "Wow. It's hard to believe I did this back on the Deltaur. I think the regulation size of these vents has gotten smaller as the years have gone by." Working his way through the intricate ventilation system of the DeepShip, he began checking the different exit vents for signs of life. "Hmmmmmm, another broomcloset. I never understood why these StarCon ships need so many broomclosets." "SO JANITORS CAN PRETEND TO DO THEIR JOB WHILE THEIR ACTUALLY NAPPING. ." After, venturing through the vents for what seemed like hours, Roger finally came to a vent emptying into the Brig. "I hope they don't charge me for breaking this airflow fin. My pay is already pretty darn low, and Kielbasa won't give me a raise. Hey, wait a second, isn't that talking?" "YES, YOU'RE VERY PERCEPTIVE. YOU JUST DISCOVERED THAT TALKING TO YOURSELF PRODUCES A CONVERSATION." "Shut up, Gary! I can't hear what those Sariens are saying." "So you're sure that he's going to stay out of commision for the whole day? "No, but that's why I hacked into the panel and knocked out the motion sensor. Do you know where his guest is?" "No, why? She's usually just touring the DeepShip." "Good, because I was thinking about taking a little trophy with me... " "What do you mean by that?" "Oh, I was thinking about taking his Golden Mop with me. I figure THAT will look pretty good in my ship." Roger was almost in a state of shell shock. "He's...contemplating...taking...my...Golden...Mop!" "IT APPEARS SO!" Roger kicked out the grate at the end of the shaft and jumped out of the air vent before the guards could realize what had happened. "If you want the mop, you have to go through me first!" "Bold words, Janitor. But they won't do you much good against three Sariens," replied one of the guards. The other opened the force field keeping the Sarien in the cell from the guards. "OH GREAT! NOW THEY'RE ANGRY! NOW YOU'VE DONE IT! NOW YOU'VE REAAALLLLLY DONE IT!" Chapter 12 Roger gulped and raised the airflow fin from the vent. Without warning, he charged at the Sarien closest to him and began beating him over the head the sharp edge of the fin. "YOU CAN DESTROY THE SHIP I WAS ON! YOU CAN STEAL THE STAR GENERATOR! YOU CAN TRY TO DESTORY MY HOMEWORLD, KILL EVERYONE IMPORTANT TO ME IN ANY WAY, AND END IT ALL BY KILLING ME, BUT YOU DO NOT MESS WITH MY GOLDEN MOP!!!!!!!!!!," Roger cried as he beat the Sarien until he fell. Roger threw the fin at the ex-defector, and grabbed the fallen guard's rifle. The defector was hit in the head by the fin and Roger began wildly shooting the remaining Sarien. Unfortunately for Roger, the rifle was set to stun, and just glanced harmlessly off the Sarien's armor. The Sarien knocked the rifle out of Roger's hands and punched him into a corner. "You fought well, but you've still lost," the Sarien said as he walked calmly towards Roger and leveled his rifle at him. Well, it looks like Roger's backed himself into a corner, no pun intended! Find out what happens next time for the dramatic (or not so dramatic) conclusion of Conspiracy '86! Chapter 13 We rejoin Roger as he's about to get fried by a Sarien in the Brig. "You shouldn't have come back. Either you're just stupid or you're a glutton for punishment." "OR MAYBE HE'S ALL OF THE ABOVE." "Just why exactly are you three trying to capture me?" Roger asked as he slowly rose from where he'd been punched across the room. The Sarien knocked Roger the floor with the butt of his rifle before replying. "I'm not sure of the exact reason. I'm just a bounty hunter. I got hired by the Sarien government because I'm the best Sarien bounty hunter this side of Xenon." "So they didn't give u a reason why they want me?" "What's it to you? This line of questioning is making me suspicious." "I'm just wondering what the heck this is all about. I mean, when three Sariens just come aboard and try to capture to take back to their government, I'm kind of interested why. So how much are they paying you anyway?" "Don't try it." "Try what?" "The old, 'how much are they paying you? I'll pay you more' deal. Trust me, I'm getting more than enough for this mission." "I wasn't going to offer to pay you to turn on your employers. I'm pretty much broke right now. But why take the mop? Surely something else is worth more then that. Maybe the old cigar butt from Space Quest 10?" "Trust me, that Golden Mop is worth more than a lousy cigar butt." From behind the Sarien, the sound of somebody coming down the ComPost tube, but the Sarien didn't seem to notice. Roger couldn't see who it was. "So, did your employer say what he was going to do to me?" "No. I don't see why you're questioning me. You're just prolonging the inevitable. I might as well shoot you right now and be done with it." "One last question! Am I worth more to your owner, er employer dead or alive?" "He's only willing to pay for you alive. But he said he would for you dead. I might as well bring you to him alive. It's what he requested and-" The Sarien was cut off as he was shot from behind. The Sarien stopped talking and fell slowly to the ground. There was a large hole burned in the back of the Sarien's armor. Standing behind him, holding the rifle Roger had used, was Xandra! "Well, um, gosh, er, uh, thanks, Xandra. I guess I owe you one." "Well, I couldn't stand there and let you get shot!" "How'd you know where I was anyway?" "When you were crawling through the air vents, you were talking to yourself. It kind of echoes in there. Besides, I knew you were fixing the replicator in the Brig today. I was going to let you know that you received a message on your ComPost. It's from Xenon City." "Xenon City? That's where Bea is!" "Yeah, but before you go check it out, you should probably throw these guy in the empty cell and let Kielbasa know about them." "Oh, yeah, good point! Here help me lift this guy would you?" Roger and Xandra managed to get the three Sariens into the now empty cell. The guard that had been knocked out by Roger had lost the darkened face plate in his helmet. The glass had shattered when he fell. The Sarien that had been hit in the head by the fin when Roger threw had a large cut across his green forehead. "Well, I don't think they'll be going anywhere and the damage they took doesn't look like it'll be permanent. I'd better go talk to Kielbasa about this." "Oh, yeah, he's got something to tell you about the next place the DeepShip is going. But you should probably check that message first." Chapter 14 In Roger's Quarters, he checked his messages and found he had one message from Xenon City. He decided to listen to it. "Hi, Rog, it's Bea. I was just letting you know that I finally got some time off. Admiral Toolman said the DeepShip is on 'official business'. If the DeepShip comes to Xenon, let me know. Talk to soon, hopefully." "Wow. I wonder if we're heading for Xenon anytime soon." "Why don't you ask Kielbasa what the Deepship is supposed to do now that the Sarien "defector" has two partners in his cell?" "Good idea! I'll ask him what we do now that Toolman has three prisoners." 10 seconds later on the Bridge: "Well, Commander, I'd like you to come with down to the Brig. I've got something to show you." Five minutes later: "And that's what happened Commander. I think Admiral Toolman will be pleased to have three Sariens instead of one." "Yes, I think so. We're should take all three of them to the Star Con prison station before we go on shore leave." "We're going on shore leave?!?" "Yes. To Xenon. Is there another planet you have in mind? Polysorb-" "NO! I mean, no thanks, Commander, Xenon is just fine!" Later in Roger's Quarters: "I'd better call Bea back and let her know we're going to Xenon." "I told you Kielbasa wanted to tell you something." "How did you know we were going to Xenon?" "That's what I went to talk the Commander about if you remember that. He agreed that after we made a report to Star Con, we'd go to Xenon. But then those Sariens came onboard and our mission was altered. But it looks like we're heading for Xenon. Better hope your luck holds out, Rog." Epilogue: Deep in the bowels of the Star Con center on Xenon: Admiral Toolman received a message in his office. "You failed Toolman! Your man Dorf failed, and my Sariens were captured. I'm very displeased with you. You assured me you would get Wilco. You failed. Better luck next time...."
